Understanding depression in its social context
Relationships, life changes and support on the same map.

How to read the diagram
An account limited to what happens inside an individual may miss important context. Interpersonal approaches focus on links between mood, relationships and life events. WHO also considers social connection a public-health issue.
Knowing many people does not necessarily mean receiving support. The map prompts consideration of contexts rather than relationship counts; loneliness and social isolation are not identical.
Limits of this account
Social support may matter; it does not replace professional assessment or care.
